Lost Kingdoms 2
Lost Kingdoms II was released on February 25, 2003 in North America for the Nintendo GameCube. Developed by FromSoftware and published by Activision, it is the sequel to Lost Kingdoms and builds on the card-based action-RPG mechanics introduced in the original title. Players control Tara Grimface, a young sorceress who uses a customizable deck of “Runestones” that summon weapons, creatures, and elemental effects in real-time combat; gameplay is a mix of action-oriented melee and ranged encounters, deck-building strategy, and exploration of interconnected environments across multiple regions of the kingdom.
The story follows Tara as she seeks to rescue her missing brother and unravel a conspiracy threatening the continent, encountering rival factions, ancient guardians, and corrupted nobles along the way. Narrative themes include the burdens of inheritance and the clash between magic and political power, with several branching encounters and optional side quests that expand the world-building. Fun fact: Lost Kingdoms II introduced a broader variety of card combinations and a multiplayer battle mode that let players test custom decks against one another, a feature absent from many contemporaneous action-RPGs.
